Help for the So. California Fire Animal Victims
Posted by sloheet on October 26th, 2007
HEET, Horse Emergency Evacuation Team along with Santa Barbara Evac is once again collecting usable supplies and monetary donations for Animal Disaster Relief. Historically we have worked with the Helen Woodward Center, a rescue and vet center in Rancho Santa Fe, however the facility was evacuated due to the fires Monday afternoon, so we are waiting to hear from them. They handled severely burned and injured horses during the 2003 fires.
We are collecting for small as well as large animals. What is so urgently needed for small animals are….collars, leashes, bowls, food (wet and dry), and bedding. For the large animals….halters, leads, buckets, fly masks, fly sprays, fly ointments, vet wraps, over the counter medical supplies (small and large animals), polo wraps, brushes, blankets, and bags of feed, (i.e. grain, senior feed, grass pellets and alfalfa pellets). Any and all things are appreciated when one has lost everything. We ask that all items donated be clean and in good repair.
Drop off locations for the San Luis Obispo area is as follows:

Requests for cash donations have been foremost in order to provide feed for more than 1900 horses at the Del Mar facility and over 600 at the Horse Park. Our president, Hank Gratton is down there now volunteering. There are several other facilities, which have accepted horses as well. There are needs for medical equipment and other items; many of the horses are collicking and ill from the smoke and trauma. Most of these items need to be purchased. Checks can be made out to HEET as we are a 501(c)3 and all donations are tax deductible.
Veterinarians who wish to donate medical supplies directly can contact Christine Garfinkel, DVM.
Dr. Eric DeVos of Los Padres Equine Practice and Central Coast Pet Emergency Clinic, have each donated over $ 500.00 worth of medical supplies to the relief fund already.
We had such an overwhelming response in 2003 so let’s show Southern California that the Central Coast can once again be counted on to lend a helping hand and help them get started again.
Thank you as always for your generous support!!!!
